IED Training Solutions first came to the attention of our West Midlands-based senior management team following the successful delivery of a range of courses to our Dundee operation, XPlore Dundee. The IED team had also provided an XPlore Dundee bus driver with much-needed wellbeing support through its bespoke Trauma Stress Management programme following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian.

National Express commissioned IED to provide a comprehensive independent security review of National Express Bus, National Express Coach, West Midlands Tram, Victoria Coach Station London and all its human resource processes. IED’s findings and subsequent report were key to informing our risk management and emergency planning contingency.

IED designed and developed a training course for our senior managers, supervisors, inspectors and site safety officers, addressing key issues such as safety, security and employee health and wellbeing.  The outcome was the tailored two-day Managing Workplace and Transport Health and Safety course, which took just eight months from conception to gain full IOSH approval.The first IOSH-approved course specific to the bus and coach industry, it is an extremely useful tool for our entire workforce, as well as other operators across the country. The course fits in well with our company values, which put safety at the top of the agenda, and will be much easier for our employees to understand and translate into a work situation.  IED have put a lot of work into this for us and we are extremely pleased with the results of this partnership. To date, more than 200 employees have attended the course, which has ensured that National Express remains at the forefront of health and safety commitment and innovation. 

In partnership with WEA Scotland, Fife Council and Clackmannanshire Council - Dundee City Council announced a new programme to provide construction training for refugees. This project is funded by the Scottish Government's New Scot’s Refugee Integration Fund and the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. The purpose of this project is to provide refugees with a new start using their already established skills in the training programmes to prepare them for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme’s Operative Test which will allow them to work on sites in the UK. 

The training was delivered by Arbroath based IED Training Solutions Ltd, in partnership with Dundee City Council. IED coached and mentored the highly skilled ‘New Scots’ to provide them with some of the essential training courses required in order to get a kick start into the construction industry. The individuals partook in this multiple day course, where interpreters were provided, in order to guarantee the greatest chance of success by eliminating language barriers.  Three of the individuals received their Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) approved and regulated Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers course certificates. 

Despite being in the pilot phase, the first training session was a huge success with new cohorts attending further training sessions during October 2022 and beyond. Successful learners will be further helped through the process of assisting them to secure employment in this field. 

IED are incredibly proud to be involved in this program, helping refugees create a new start for themselves and their families by providing them with the training they require to get a kick start into the workplace and society in general. 

Go South Coast puts its colleagues at the forefront of business; we simply could not operate without the hundreds of employees that carry out frontline tasks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. When they find themselves in traumatic situations, it is vital that we have a robust wellbeing strategy in place.

Over the last couple of years, we have had two particularly distressing traffic-related incidents directly involving employees, who subsequently received support from IED Training Solutions and their Trauma Stress Management programme.

The help given by Ian and his team to our colleagues was immeasurable, and both still use the coping strategies that were discussed to ensure they maintain a positive mental outlook. They have returned to full working capacity which has helped to strengthen the positive wellbeing culture that exists in the business.

Additional training by the IED team has allowed us to expand upon what we have learned by putting in place trauma stress management networks, allowing us to help colleagues who find themselves in traumatic situations.

I first heard about IED Training Solutions from a colleague who knew Ian from having served with him in the Royal Marines. Having reviewed the company website, IED appeared to provide courses applicable to the needs of IES Callenberg, such as first aid, CPR and AED. The IOSH Managing Safely training was also of extreme interest.

All our candidates passed the training and gained the relevant certification.

IED Training Solutions provided The Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust with a comprehensive service, building a tailored course (STAG) and delivering to delegates in sporting estates throughout the country with total professionalism.

Ian and his colleagues provided a unique approach which engendered concentration, respect and an assimilation of information and positive feedback that was above any expectations.

IED Training Solutions supplied informal mental health first aid learning sessions, as well as more structured refresher and Level 2 mental health first aid courses to a wide and diverse population in BHGE Montrose. 

We have a growing awareness and capability in this area to address our needs both in the workplace and in support of wider issues. The training provided by the IED team provided a realism and depth of currency to the topic that has developed and energised the site teams. A focus element of our wellbeing programme, IED Training Solutions has significantly added value to site capability.  

I have called on IED Training Solution’s expertise several times over the last few years and would gladly do so again. They have assisted us with various aspects of training, from first aid at work training to fire marshal training, along with IOSH working safely and managing safely course. No project is too big or small for them, and they always provide a first-class service.
